31  Mar 2014 - The 3.5 year SWITCH-Asia project "Green Public Procurement in Bhutan" (GPP Bhutan) held it's kick-off meeting on March 31, 2014. Led by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the project's implementing partners are Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Royal Society for the Protection of Nature (RSPN), Royal Institute of Management (RIM) and the Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP). In addition to partner organizations, the meeting was joined by representatives from the government agencies and public departments who have been identified as key to the success of the project.

"Green public procurement in Bhutan: A cross sectoral strategy for sustainable industrial competitiveness" aims to influence public procurement processes in Bhutan, making a strong case for more sustainable purchasing decisions by the government; not only to minimize negative impacts but to generate positive multiplier effects for the environment, for people and for the domestic economy. The project is highly complementary to many Bhutanese development priorities.
